Detour explains the lens build in the Surge line, too. Surge uses PC (polycarbonate) lenses, described as a huge upgrade over traditional TAC lenses, because the lens material is injected around the Hi-Fi (high contrast) filter. This prevents the layers from separating, which Detour notes can be common in humid high temperature locations or if you store your sunglasses in your car.

For easier upkeep, the oleophobic lens coating adds a barrier that makes wiping smudges effortless and helps extend the life of your lenses. The hydrophobic coating repels water to keep your vision clear and helps you avoid wiping your lenses dry, again extending lens life. Sweat proof, oil proof coatings help the lenses handle active use.
