Custom Surfboard FAQs
Hand-Shaped for Precision. Built for Real Performance.
At One Revolver Surfboards, we don’t mass produce surfboards or rely on generic stock shapes. Every custom surfboard is hand-shaped by Brian Wright — a retired 21-year U.S. Coast Guard veteran — and built around your skill level, wave conditions, surfing style, and performance goals. From daily drivers like the .38 Special to fish surfboards, grovelers, mid-lengths, longboards, and step-up performance shapes, each board is designed with purpose, precision, and real-world surf performance in mind.
Every board is professionally glassed and finished at Pure Glass Inc. in Costa Mesa, California, using high-quality materials and proven construction methods trusted throughout the surf industry. Whether you’re looking for speed in small waves, more paddle power, cleaner rail-to-rail transitions, or a fully customized performance setup, One Revolver Surfboards focuses on building surfboards that feel alive under your feet — not mass-produced boards built for warehouse shelves.

Consider your skill level, weight, and the waves you surf most. We recommend models like the .38 Special for versatility. Brian Wright provides one-on-one consultations to match a shape to your specific goals.
Surfboard volume is measured in liters and helps determine how much flotation your board provides. The ideal volume depends on your weight, surfing ability, board type, and the waves you ride most often. More volume generally improves paddle power, stability, and wave-catching ability, while less volume increases responsiveness and performance. Use our Surfboard Volume Calculator to estimate a reliable starting point for your next custom surfboard: https://onerevolversurfboards.com/pages/surfboard-volume-calculator-guide
Yes. Every board is custom-built to your needs. We can adjust length, width, and thickness to the 1/16th of an inch for your perfect volume.
We offer custom tail shapes (round, swallow, square), various glassing schedules for strength, and your choice of PU or EPS foam construction.
Standard builds typically take 3–5 weeks. Every One Revolver board is hand-shaped and glassed to the highest standards at Pure Glass Inc. in Costa Mesa.
We install industry-standard FCS II or Futures fin boxes as well as glass-on fins! You can choose from Twin, Thruster, Quad, or Single-fin configurations.
Yes. While FCS II is designed to be tool-less, we highly recommend using grub screws for extra security, especially in powerful surf or when traveling.
Keep your board out of direct sunlight and hot cars. Rinse with fresh water after every session and repair dings immediately to prevent water damage to the foam core.
Yes. We specialize in custom resin tints, pigments, and specialized fabric inlays. If you have a specific vision, we can help bring it to life during the design phase. We can have anything imaginable printed on fiberglass from boardlams and install it on your board!
Changes are usually possible until the physical shaping process begins. Once the foam is cut, the design is locked in to ensure structural integrity.
As a veteran-owned business, your satisfaction is vital. While custom boards are non-refundable, we work closely with you during the design phase to ensure the board meets your exact specs. We can help resell it for you if you are truly unhappy and tried different fins.
We warrant against manufacturing defects in the shaping and glassing. We build to high standards to ensure maximum durability. However, mother ocean is powerful and if your board breaks under normal conditions that is not covered.

For a seamless repair, wet-sand using Indasa Rhynowet starting at 400 grit and working up to 800 or 1200 grit to match the factory gloss of your board.
Yes. Indasa Red Line is a premium aluminum oxide abrasive that performs exceptionally well on both traditional PE and modern Epoxy surfboards without clogging.
Yes. One of the reasons we exclusively stock Indasa Rhynogrip Red Line is its versatility. Epoxy resin is notoriously "tougher" and can gum up cheap sandpaper quickly. Indasa’s anti-clogging lubricant layer is specifically engineered to handle the heat and friction of sanding high-strength Epoxy without leaving uneven "pig-tails" in your finish.
Yes, we carry professional-grade 4oz and 6oz E-glass and high-clarity resins. These are the same materials used daily in the One Revolver shaping bay.
.
We prioritize speed for all building materials. Most orders for Indasa abrasives, resins, and fiberglass are processed within 24–48 hours and shipped directly from our high-volume fulfillment centers. This ensures you get the freshest materials and the fastest delivery times nationwide.
It depends on your board's construction. Polyester (PE) resin is the industry standard for traditional polyurethane (PU) blanks, but it will melt an EPS (Styrofoam) core. Epoxy resin is the "universal" choice—it works on both EPS and PU boards, offers a higher strength-to-weight ratio, and has lower VOCs for backyard repairs. If you aren't sure what your board is made of, Epoxy is the safest bet.
We recommend Indasa Rhynogrip Red Line. For leveling a hot coat, start with 120-150 grit. For the final "pro-finish" before the polish, step up through 220, 320, and 400 grit.
Hardware store abrasives are designed for wood or drywall; they often clog or "burn" when used on surfboard resins. We exclusively stock Indasa Rhynogrip Red Line, which is engineered specifically for the composite industry. It provides a more consistent scratch pattern and lasts significantly longer than standard sandpaper.
